DAY 3 TREKKING: ALOLA TO VASI CAMPSITE

Saturday 19 April

It was a long wet, cold and muddy day again as the group arrived into camp at 5pm. The day began trekking through Alola and down to the creek enjoying more magnificent views down the valley. They crossed the creek here and then it was a short climb up and then a long hike for 1.5 with a few short breaks to the site of a Japanese ammunition dump just off the track. Then 30 minutes to Eora creek for morning tea where they had another good rest. After morning tea it was another big climb for 40 minutes to see an Australian ammunition dump containing hundreds of live grenades and ammunition just off the track. Then back onto the track for a long 2.5-hour hike into Templeton’s crossing for lunch by the water. After lunch it was a tough climb, before a nice decline into tonight’s campsite by the creek. There a few are well out of their comfort zone and although buggered have a great positive attitude. After arriving in camp they are now braving the cold and chilly waters of Vasi campsite and washing the all the mud off, while the others are enjoying a nice hot tea and coffee and popcorn.
